The Seymour Salmonid Society has an an 8 month employment opportunity for...

  HATCHERY TECHNICIAN: $13.50/hour (40 hour work week)
   Starting date is around the second week June 2008.

  BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Post Secondary Degree in a Natural Resources study

·        Must have a car and a valid Drivers License

·         Must be available to work on weekends.  You will have Tuesdays and Wednesdays off

·         Good communication skills; plus general computer literacy

·         Physically fit for field work

·         General knowledge and skills with power tools and carpentry

  DUTIES:

 Fish culture activities under the direction of the Facility and Program Manager

·         General maintenance/ cleaning of rearing containers and channels

·         Fish feeding and sampling

·         Adult seining and enumeration (possible river floats)

·         Enumeration studies and data analysis

·         Capturing and handling adult fish for broodstock

·         Egg takes (on and off site)

·         Egg incubation duties: picking, enumerating, ponding

·         Fin clipping

·         Fish releases

·         Facility maintenance, improvements

·         Accurate data collection and recording, report writing and updating the assistant hatchery manager on assigned projects and fish culture activities.

·         Participation in creating over wintering habitat for salmonids within the lower Seymour River water shed.

 Public Education and Volunteer Coordination

·         Supervision of volunteers as necessary

·         Occasional public tours for special interest groups or general public at society events.

·         Assist and participate in society events

 Building Maintenance

·         Maintain an inventory list of all fish culture equipment and tools located at the facility

 Cleanliness of Facilities:

·         Participation in weekly basic cleaning of the facilities

·         Help to maintain a neat, orderly and safe working environment

 Other: 10%

·         Assist with education, special events, habitat projects and other projects upon request and where appropriate.

·        Initiate and participate in Seymour stewardship and watershed initiatives
