The Seymour Salmonid Society is a non-profit organization that is responsible for running the Seymour River Fish Hatchery and Education Centre. Our purpose is to enhance fish stocks and encourage proper management of fisheries in the Seymour River. We also aim to educate the public about the value of the Seymour River and the salmonids it supports as a resource for everyone living in British Columbia.
What you can see at the Seymour Hatchery in August
The major part of the reconstruction of the weirs has been completed as much as it is going to be, the hatchery is open but please be careful around the outside ponds.
We have all of our steelhead in the rearing shed from the spawning in the spring, the coho that were spawned in the fall last year are being moved to the outside ponds where they will spend the next 9 months
We have some adult coho on site at the hatchery, ask the staff to show you where they are
We have started to see some adult coho and steelhead returning to the river, you might be lucky enough to see them moving around in the hatchery pool or you may see spawning chinook later in August
